Det gröna århundradet har just börjat. Detta är till fördel för både design och kvalitét i våra produkter, tvärtemot hur det varit historiskt
Our wood cases are truly one of a kind with their composition! The wood cases come in walnut, cherry and bamboo and all varieties of wood are FSC certified. The plastic is polycarbonate and has been thoroughly tested. Mixing plastic and wood means that less plastic is needed compared to a traditional plastic case, and it also makes it so much more stunning.
The materials contain energy and when the municipality burn your case together with the household waste it will be transformed to heat and electricity; which is essential for everyday use. There is a big problem with plastic reaching the oceans all over the globe. Make sure you put the case in a bin and not on the streets or in nature!
We are aiming for a positive net effect, and are currently working on finding ways to compensate for our plastic sales. We are calculating the emissions from the case and will compensate by helping to remove single use plastic from nature. Together we can make sure that less plastic linger in wrong places!
the plastic is polycarbonate
which is a hard plastic consisting coloring. Since it’s a hard plastic it means that you should sort your case as combustible waste, so the plastic and the wood can be burned up.
plastic is formed with a process called injection molding
which is one of the best processes thanks to low energy consumption, together with the fact that this specific process comes with almost zero waste compared to other processes forming plastic. Also the printed images are hand drawn by us, which really helps our originality!
Time for our original cork cases! The cork case is made of two layers of cork with a light but strong plastic film called aramid core in between. It’s compounded like a sandwich and pressed together with vacuum. The aramid core is perfect for the purpose of strengthening the case. Portugal and Spain, together manage 81 % of the global asset of cork. The rest of the cork forests are also located in the western part of the Mediterranean. Cork is a fascinating raw material that comes from the bark of the cork oak. The bark is peeled of without harming the tree which means that the harvest won’t hurt the ecosystem in the forest. After harvesting, the tree needs to rest for about 7-10 years before the next harvest. The longer time between harvesting the better quality of the cork.

and is also liquid repellent, making it easy to wipe it of with a cloth and some water and soap. After some time using the case, the cork might become a bit darker but it doesn’t detract the beauty of it- rather the opposite, making the cork case our most authentic product.
The most sustainable way
to handle your cork case, when you are no longer in use of it is to sort it as plastic waste. The cork is not possible to reuse but it is quite alright, since it is a renewable material. When sorting it as plastic, the amount of plastic can be taken care of and that completely removes the risk of spreading plastic into wrong places.

We are so proud to be able to offer this compostable case among our products. We at North Ones buy our Pela cases from Canada where Pela produces them. By doing this we can transport the cases from Canada in big batches - lowering the emissions per unit, compared to shipping just one unit directly from Pela in Canada to the customer in northern Europe and Scandinavia. We are working closely with Pela to achieve the best possible solution.
The base material meets the standards for biodegradability in an industrial composting facility, ASTM D6400-04 from the U.S. and the EN 13432 in EU.
However, since part of the material is comprised of non renewable resources you should not let it decompose on your back yard, which can lead to disseminating a small amount of micro plastic. The industrial decomposers can handle this in a good way, and choosing the Pela Case helps with the transition from fossil-dependent production to renewable products.
the most sustainable way to handle your pela case
when you are no longer in use of it, is to send it back - creating a possibility to reuse the material into another generation of Pela Cases. Another way to handle your Pela Case is to place it in your bio-based waste (food leftovers etc) since the cases are 100% degradable, just like food. In Sweden, and in most of the European countries, your Pela case will be decomposed to biogas or biofertilizer.
pela case is made of Flaxstic®
which is comprised of compostable elastomer and flaxseed materials. The material has biobased content to 45% and the remaining 55% is comprised of non renewable resources. The goal is to reach 100% biobased content as soon as possible. The flaxseed improves the strength and durability of the product. The material has been tested to be safe and free of phthalates, BPA, cadmium and lead and has been verified to meet child safety standards in the U.S, Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Besides the lack of these toxic substances the Pela Case releases considerably lower greenhouse gas emissions and has got a smaller carbon footprint than traditional plastic cases in the production.
